Lime scale removers are a dilute form of muriatic acid, which can etch concrete. Keeping that in mind, a person using the precautions listed before (and including safety goggles in both cases) and a stronger solution of muriatic acid could achieve the same result without the pumice stone. Muriatic acid is also available at hardware stores.
