Soaking my headlights in vinegar?

i have a pontiac grand am and i dont want to risk taking the back of the headlight off and messing it up since the rubber is siliconed on or something. would soaking it in vinegar and water overnight clean the grime off from it? or is there something else that i can soak it in? i cant get down into the light really. thanks!
