How do I get rid of dirt & grime stuck on the edges and bottom of pool?

Same situation we had when we bought this house. The pool needs to be drained and then acid bathed. You can do it yourself which I don't recommend,or have it done.Could have been black algae that has sat there to dry up and stain your pool. That what ours was. The acid bath helped but eventually I had it re-plastered.
